Apron Swap

I am so happy, I finished up my apron today for the apron swap, I am so excited because I think it turned out so cute. Hope my swap partner enjoys it .... my apron is going all the way to Portland to Leigh Anne http://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/. It took me a while to convince myself I should sign up for the swap, now I'm so glad I did. I am the world's worst at having fears of not doing something good enough, etc. Today I am smiling with pride though - I made a pretty apron! Woooohoooo...............

Also, I didn't use a store bought pattern, I made my own from tissue paper, pretty good, huh?

Special Birthday

On this date today back in 1945 a very special person in my life was born, my daddy or as he's better known today, Papa.

I know that most people will say that their dad is the best but I think mine is. He's so kind and caring, there isn't anyone else like him. And oh goodness ......... if ever a grandchild has loved their grandfather my dad has 6 grand kids that love their Papa to death. Whether he's sitting outside watching the kids play, taking them fishing or to the races, he has as much fun as they do, whatever they're doing. Another thing I love about him is he has enough love to go around to everyone ....... there are no favorites, I have never felt he loved my sister more, and it is so obvious there isn't one grand child that means anymore to him than the other.

Just passing through

Late this evening Molly, Steve and I were sitting outside enjoying the cool evening. We were talking and being entertained by Molly acting silly when I saw a yellow bird come flying towards us. It was a parakeet!

We tried to catch it, I did have it in the net once but it flew out ........I guess it knew we sure didn't need another pet to have to take care of or deal with. I wonder where he came from and where he was headed when he left here. Was nice to see him if only for a short time as he was just passing through. You know, maybe he knew I needed a topic for my blog today...haha!

Daddy/Daughter Fishing Trip And A Birthday Party

This morning Steve and Molly went to a kid's fishing rodeo sponsored by my husband's work ....

I hadn't been feeling very well this week so let them get up and get ready and go by themselves. It was nice for me having a little break from having to get up to my normal routine. He did Molly's breathing treatment, took care of giving her meds to her, etc. They left and I stayed in bed and snoozed until nearly 10 am...ahhhhh, it was nice.

Molly ended up winning 3rd place in her age group, her award for that was $15. She was happy about that.

This afternoon we attended my great aunt Ruth's 80th birthday party. She is such a sweet lady and always been more like a grandmother to me than a great aunt. We all just love her to death! Everyone had a great time at the party ....

On this date in 1986 at 4:23 am my first born child was born - Tiffany Megan

It is so hard to believe she is 22 yrs old now. She was always such a sweet baby and little girl, and I'm even prouder of the young woman she has become. She's such a great person.

Today I had a surprise in the mailbox, always nice to get a "happy" there instead of bills. My sweet friend Debbie sent me a purse pattern and a Clotilde magazine. I can hardly wait to try and make one.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there. Hope your day was great!

I have had a good day, just very tiring. I didn't sleep well at all last night because of the weather. This morning I had to get up at 6am to get ready for a trip to Watumpka today which is a 3 hr drive from here (If you're wondering where that is, because I know I had no clue myself, it's down near Montgomery, AL). Tiffany, Dustin's mother and his mom's friend Helen and I went to a bridal shop down there, Helen's friend owns the shop, they are closed on Sunday's but today Tiffany got the special treatment .... she had the shop all to herself to shop.
Best of all, we bought a dress! It's just gorgeous and looks beautiful on her. WooooHoooo we're finally getting somewhere now with this wedding planning. This is a good thing since the wedding is going to be in Sept. That will be here before we know it! I told myself I wasn't gonna show any pictures of Tiffany in the dress but I just have to give a little sneak peak!

About Mother's Day, I want to show my goodies but I'm just too tired tonight to fool with it so I'll have to do pictures tomorrow, I'll just tell you about them tonight.

Steve and Molly have worked most of the day cleaning old brick (the brick is from the chimney of Steve's grandfather's old house, they found a brick as they were cleaning that was signed and dated the year 1904), the point for the brick is they layed a patio out of it on the ground in herringbone shape and bought me a swing with a canopy top to sit on it. Steve had bought the cutest ever old flower pot at a yard sale Saturday morning (it has old green paint on it......and if you know me you know the older looking the paint and the shabbier the better) He put flowers in the pot and has it sitting on the patio which is all underneath a shade tree. It's all too cute, I know I'm gonna really enjoy it. Steve also got me a rotary cutting mat and rotary cutter. Yeahhh, I'm sure it'll come in handy with my sewing.
Goodnight everybody......I'm gonna rest, so tired from that trip today.

Bloomers

Oh what a day, we have been on the hunt today for our moms mother's day gifts and Tiffany's bday. Got the Mother's Day gifts taken care of but no luck on Tiffany's gifts.

We went to Caledonia, MS to Bloomers to look at wind chimes .... we had a set of those in mind for Steve's mom. Last year Steve got me the largest set they had, ohhhhhhh myyyyyy goodness, if you've never heard the Corinthian bells you just have too! They sound so beautiful. They are pretty expensive but well worth it. Anyway, Steve's mom has always carried on over mine so much so we know she's just gonna love her's. Hope she enjoys them as much as I have mine.

After we finished up there we headed to the mall to do some shopping for my mom. Ended up getting her an outfit, a necklace and earring set, and a pair of Yellow Box shoes. We went ahead and delivered her gift to her since I'll be out of town tomorrow and won't get a chance to see her. She seemed happy with her gift and I know she'll be pretty wearing it.

Thursday afternoon I decided to get busy on Molly's little apron, she was ready for one of her own. Instead of using the fabric we bought at Hobby Lobby though I decided to use the skirt I picked up at a thrift store, when I saw it I just thought it'd make the cutest little girl's apron, I just loved the fabric, it looks kind of vintage to me, I used some green fabric I had on hand here at home for the waist and belt.

I just cut the skirt in half, turned right sides together (the skirt had a lining) and sewed. I added the waist band and belt, and here's her very own little apron. Too cute, huh? And easy.... ( I know my pictures are side ways, I gave up trying to fix them...they are right side up in my photos on my computer, and for some reason when I upload them here they're this way, go figure!)

Friday afternoon Steve, Molly and I went to the mall. I was in the mood for some new shirts, I picked out a couple and got some cute matching earrings. Of course I got another pair of flip flops too ...... I'm now really flip flop happy! I don't need to buy anymore.

We ate a late lunch/early supper at Santa Fe before Steve had to go to work for the night.


Molly and I decided last night we wanted a cake, we didn't do the "from scratch" thing, just used a box mix and icing. It turned out good though so to us it didn't matter how we made it.

busy day

Well you can just call me Ms Betty Homemaker, today I've been at it. Well the second half of the day I have. This morning I mostly just sat on the back porch enjoyed the beautiful weather. Then around lunch Steve got busy working on the yard so I thought I might as well get started on my apron. I had Steve get my sewing machine out of his shop where it's been stored for a good while now. Thank goodness it still worked fine.

About the apron, I have signed up for an apron swap over at "A Feathered Nest" -http://projectsforyournest.blogspot.com/ (I haven't figured out how to correctly do the hyperlink stuff yet so just have to do it the only way I know how), but wanted to sorta practice on one before I do one for the swap. I had it all mostly cut out before today, I made my own pattern instead of buying one and I used some fabric I've had for a good while, it's not what I would exactly pick but I think I picked this fabric up at a yard sale.
I have worked on it a few minutes here and there over the past several days. I got busy this afternoon sewing and by tonight I was finished with it. It isn't the fanciest thing in the world but I think it's cute....especially to be the first thing I've sewed in so long. I hate to post this awful picture of myself wearing it but I'm just trying to show off my apron, not how ruff I looked today! haha...

In the middle of working on my apron I also cooked Chicken and dumplings for supper, Yummmmm! It was a busy day for me but I enjoyed it and I'm so proud I finished my apron. Now I'm ready to start another one.

Market Street Weekend

I have been trying to post for a few days now and it seems every time I sit down to start I have to quit for some reason or the other, so here's another attempt. Maybe I'll make it this time.

This past weekend was nice, we had plans to go to Market Street Festival in Columbus and thank goodness the weather cooperated. We (Tiffany, Molly, Logan and myself) had a good time it was just very warm and very crowded. We were scared Logan was gonna get a sun burn so we didn't stay very long.

Sunday afternoon Molly and I spent pretty much the whole afternoon outside. It was such a beautiful day. Even our dog Abby enjoyed the afternoon being lazy in the shade. Don't let this picture fool you though, she was just resting up so she could stand outside my bedroom window and bark all night. Ughhhhhhhhh!!! She loves doing that.

Molly blew lots of bubbles, that is one of her favorite things to do, has been since she was a little bitty girl.

Monday Steve and I, well mostly Steve, I pretty much just supervised did some work in the yard, set out some little trees I had put in pots last year. Also separated and set out my elephant ear plants from last year. Steve has the garden ready to be planted, we just haven't got around to that yet.

Field Trip To The Zoo

Yesterday we went on a school field trip to the Memphis Zoo. It was really fun (other than having to get up at 3am to get ready so we could be at the school before 5am!) We made it to the school on time and got Molly loaded on the bus then got in the line of vehicles of other parents that were going also. We stopped in New Albany, MS for breakfast on our way to Memphis. When we arrived at the zoo we were assigned our girls that we were chaperoning and off we went.

There were alot of other school groups there also so it was pretty crowded, thank goodness we had a good group of girls. One of the girl's moms which is also a friend of mine (Vicki) was with us so we all had a good time.

We roamed around the zoo until it was time to leave at 4pm. Steve, Molly and I had decided to spend the night in Memphis, so we rode around and showed Molly some sights.

We ate supper at Neely's BBQ (which was greatttttt!)

Then at 7:30 we just decided we'd had enough of the big city and we wanted to come home to the country! We got home at 10:30 last night so that wasn't too bad. I drove part of the way home so Steve could nap, he just doesn't do to good staying awake trying to drive when he's tired. Molly is already talking about wanting to go back to the zoo. Our favorite thing there was the polar bears, it was so neat to watch them playing in the water.

Now we're looking forward to going to Columbus tomorrow to Market Street Festival with Tiffany and Logan, just hope it doesn't rain all day!
