SeaShell Cross

Seashell cross...
Right now I have it standing on top of our built in China cabinet in the dining room.
I plan on hanging it, when I get the courage to put a nail in the wall.
Am I the only one like that, wonder if there is a special word for it? I have never had a lot of stuff hanging on walls because the thought of nails in the walls freaks me out.  I know, I'm a little weird! ha!

Arbor/Trellis

Got something I wanna share with y'all, even though we just stuck it in place this evening. We didn't get it in the ground because my hubby had to get to work. It's an arbor/trellis that my husband made me a few years ago.  I had a trellis I had bought from Home Accents, it was really cheap, only lasted about two summers and it rusted away. He constructed this one for me out of old wrought iron porch columns. It made the move with us to our current home but we hadn't done anything with it. Then a couple of weeks ago someone borrowed it for a wedding (they put a new coat of white paint on it, but I think it needs another coat or two. Also they put the base in buckets of concrete to get it to stand up on its on, we're just gonna dig holes and set the concrete in the ground) anyway it hit me that I had the perfect spot for it, the West end of our front porch. The ideas I have are to dress it up are white tulle fabric and cute hanging glass candle holders, maybe even little jars with candles. Hopefully this week we'll get that done. I'll be sure to come back and show pictures when we're finished.

Hosta

We purchased Hosta bulbs and set them out a few years ago. They were still at our old home, until today...

We went and dug them up and brought them to our house and planted them.  They look great around the bottom of the pear trees, don't ya think? I love these plants, they're tuff and seem to grow well anywhere, just not in full sun.

Private Sitting Area

In the back of our house we have a patio/sitting area that adjoins our carport. We live on the corner of two highways therefore we have no privacy which doesn't go over too well with this country gal, I was really missing that get out in the yard and have a little privacy feeling. We talked about putting up a privacy fence around the sitting area but I didn't want to totally close it in. Instead, here's what we came up with. I just love it, we can keep the curtains gathered, or when we want privacy or I want to lay on the swing and read without every car that passes seeing me all I have to do it untie them and I'm in my own little world.

This is the before. To the left of the little fence is a opening/walk through and then there was another little fence same as this on the left side. I didn't think to grab my camera until my husband had already taken it down.

We took a trip to Lowe's, got two ten foot pieces of cooper pipe, drop cloths, and curtain rings with clips.

Getting started on it.

While at Lowe's we also bought a Willow tree and planted it in our yard. They're my favorite type of tree, had to have one in our yard.

Trussville Antique Mall

What better thing to do with an empty nursing home than turn it into an Antique Mall, like people in Trussville, Alabama did. And boy what a mall it is, it's huge! Such a great place, I can hardly wait to visit again.

I saw a lot of things I'd love to have taken home with me:

Thinking Time

Unfortunately my daughter Molly was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, she has CF so this is something we have to deal with quiet often, anyway ... things are going ok and she actually feels good, just having to get her rounds of iv meds to help get her lung function back up. With today only being day 3, they don't count the first day you come in, we are already bored out of our gourds. I am not one that can sit still for long at home, its hard for me to watch tv or anything because I'm always up doing something. But, when at the hospital, especially when you're in one of the smallest rooms in the hospital there is nothing to do but sit. Ugh!
I have had plenty of time for thinking, planning, browsing the web for ideas for things I want to work on when we get home. A pie safe in our stairway/hallway area is going to go in the living room, a drop leaf table that once held a desktop computer is going to go in my son's room to hold his tv so I can get rid of the hideous thing holding his tv now. All my Easter bunnies and such in the dining room will get packed away and out will come all my seashells, I'll also hang a wooden cross (picture below, I'll have to take pictures of the finished product when we get home) with seashells glued to it I made a few days before coming to the hospital.

Easter

Even though my baby (Molly) is 15 yrs old now the Easter Bunny still left her a happy.  I wish he would have remembered me, I may be old but I'd love a necklace like this myself, hehehe...

Welcome to our porch

Our front porch is officially ready for rockin', swangin', and sweet tea drinkin' ...
I think I'm going to drape a quilt across the back of the church pew, I think that would be cute.
The planter was a find today at an antique mall, need to get flowers for it.

Ferns

Today we visited a local plant farm.  It's something I look so forward to each Spring. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get around to taking and posting pictures of the plants hanging on the porch.  They're just beautiful I tell ya.

Painted Porch

Amazing what a change paint can make. We have been wanting to paint our front porch since buying our house over a year ago, we finally did it and WOW what a change. We still need to do a little touch up here and there, and we need to paint front and side steps and the brick underneath the porch.
I think I am more excited over the new light fixtures than the paint. Before there were two big (ugly to me) ceiling fans, I wanted more of a chandelier look, well a few weeks ago during a trip to a thrift store we found two matching brass light fixtures, painted them white and they look so pretty on the porch. Best part about them, they were only $10.50 each! YAY!  We painted the ceiling sky blue, it doesn't show up like I thought it would, you can tell it's blue though. I guess I had rather it be like it is than have been too dark. I hope to buy ferns this week to hang,  just something about a big ole Southern porch with ferns hanging.
