Scarey Moment

Today has been one of those days that I haven't done much of anything, I stayed in my pj's until nearly 2pm and decided I would probably feel better if I got a hot bath and got dressed, of course that always makes me feel better. I don't know why I don't get up first thing each morning, take a bath and do my hair and makeup, amazing how it makes for such a more productive day if you do that.

Our little great niece and nephew (Adrian & Austin) came over this afternoon to play outside with Molly for a little while. Well they hadn't been here but maybe 10 minutes and I noticed the wind picking up, seriously the pollen from the pine trees was blowing like sheets of rain, I don't think I have ever noticed that before. Since my allergies are just terrible we hurried inside. Before long it started raining really hard, I thought I'd step out on the back porch and get a shot of the Alabama rain washing the pollen away and all the sudden there was a big bolt of lightening and awful thunder, scared me to death! Believe me, didn't take me long to get inside, I decided the rest of my rain photos would come from looking out a window.

Long Time No Post

Well not really that long but I had been posting pretty much everyday, I've missed a few days so to me seems it's been forever.

Steve has been off on his 7 days and for a change he didn't volunteer to work any of those days, we had him home with us the entire 7 days. We got some things done that needed doing but of course we didn't get around to everything.

Saturday Molly got an early surprise from the Easter bunny, her own little bunny. She named her Tinkerbelle, she's such a cute little thing!

Last Saturday night Tiff, Dustin and Roxie came over and we grilled out, we were looking so forward to eating outside on the picnic table Steve finished up building Saturday evening just for the occasion, well we ate outside but burrrrrrrr, it was chilly! Still had a good time though...

Monday we pretty much just took it easy, but Tuesday and Wednesday we did get busy working in the barn. We love having barn sales, it has been a couple of years since we've had one, we have people asking all the time about it so we decided to get busy, get things in order and have one. We're still a month or longer away from being ready but we did get off to a good start getting ready ... Its so fun having the barn sales, we enjoy seeing all the antique dealers/friends we've met over the years, its just a good time to visit with friends and have a big ole time .... making a little money always comes in handy also. Below are a couple of pictures of some of my things in the barn.

Wednesday evening Molly got the camera out after we noticed all the pretty butterflies enjoying the peach tree blossoms. She did such a great job taking pictures I wanted to post some , aren't they just beautiful!

After working so hard in the barn Tue. and Wed. we decided to take a break Thursday afternoon and take a family fishing trip down to the pond ... unfortunatly the fish weren't biting real good, we did catch a few but it was fun going either way, such a pretty time of year. We saw several ducks fly over, two flew in and landed on the opposite end of the pond, I just wasn't fast enough getting my camera out to capture them.

Of course Molly got bored with it all and decided to go do some climbing, I can't say much, I remember doing the same thing as a child, at least she didn't do like me, I used to love to slide down the big banks on my butt, you can really ruin a pair of pants that way, thank goodness Molly only got dirty shoes. She had fun though so that is all that matters!

Still here

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm still here, just had a busy week and haven't been on the computer much. I'll try to give an update and post pictures soon...

The Letter K

The letter K is for keepsake. I am one that loves keeping anything with special memories, of course one of my favorite keepsakes is my wedding dress. What a special day it was when I wore it ... the day I married the man of my dreams, my best friend. Of course if I would have known what would happen in the future on that date (which is also my sister's birthday), I might have chosen a different date, now when our anniversary rolls around on September 11th seems all I can really think about is what happened in 2001 with the World Trade Centers on that date.

A Good Day !

Today was a really good day! Great weather, found several things at yard sales for our booths, Molly got a new bunny rabbit which she named Tinkerbell andddddddd most exciting for me, I saw my first hummingbird of the year! Poor little thing, I was sitting on our back porch talking to Steve and it just flew up and started eating ( I had cleaned and filled their feeders about two weeks ago), I got so excited I guess I scared the poor little fellow to death cause I haven't seen him again. I'm sure he'll be back plus lots more though, last year we had so many. I just love sitting and watching them! Also I sat and watched the blue birds today that have started working on their nest in bird houses in our yard, they're so busy. I kept trying to catch a shot of one going in and out of it's house with my camera, but I guess it was camera shy!

I grouped our finds of the day together for some pictures to share with you all.

I know it looks like we went overboard with the wooden drink crates but at $2 each we couldn't resist. They're so cute to use to display with and we've never had a problem selling them either. It's so neat finding new things for our booths .... I can hardly wait to start rearranging. Ohhhhh we pulled up to one sale, saw some friends of our's, well ... she was holding a Longaberger basket she'd just bought for 25 cents! Steve asked her if she was going to sell it, he told her about me collecting them. Do you know what she did? Yep....dear sweet lady gave me the basket. It is pictured sitting on the desk in the first photo.

The Letter J

The letter J is for "just" can't sleep! I have never been awake and on the computer at 3am before doing anything but here I am, wide awake for the second night or should I say early morning in a row, yesterday it was 2:30am that I woke up, this morning it was 2:50am. Maybe it's that I'm getting older, so many things seem to be changing with me. There are some nights I will go to bed so tired and fall right asleep and sleep great all night, most nights I go right to sleep then within ten minutes it is like someone has flipped a switch and I just wake right up, whatever the deal is I know it's surely aggravating to be so tired and know you need the sleep but just can't. Maybe I just have too many worries running through my head, if that is the case I wish they'd wait to run through at a decent hour.

Tannehill Trade Days

Steve and I had a nice weekend, Saturday we went to Wren, MS to a flea market , it was fun but Sunday we went to McCalla, AL to Tannehill Trade Days, its a big flea market with about anything you can imagine, it's a really nice place. We just love the different antiques we find there. We didn't buy much this time but it was sure fun looking anyway.

After walking around shopping for 3 hrs I had to sit down to rest and grab a bite to eat, sure was a good bbq sandwich and sweet tea!

R.I.P. Fisher

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The letter H

The letter H is for Happy to be Home and not at the Hospital!
Yesterday was Molly's appointment in Birmingham with her CF doctor. After two weeks of her oral meds she had made an improvement, still not where the doctor wants her but enough not to have to go in the hospital for iv antibiotics. We're so happy about that, especially since this coming week is spring break week. We don't have plans to really go anywhere but just to be home and hopefully have nice weather some days will be nice.

Well, we're having a pretty busy weekend here so I'll try to post more later. Gotta get outside and start working on a home for our latest buys, we bought a trio of Mille Fleur D'uccles today at a flea market. Below is a picture of Mille Fleur's, this is a photo I found on the net. I'll try to post some actual photos of mine later.

The Letter G

The letter G is for grandmother. Most people who know me knew my Mama Hayes so this post is for my other grandmother, my MawMaw Harris, the one most people didn't get to know. As I was looking through my pictures to add one of her, I noticed this one of me also standing, facing the same direction she was so thought I'd post both photo's, grandmother and granddaughter with time cut short! Below is something I wrote for my grandmother's page on Ancestry, it says it all:

Willie Lee Herron Harris was my maternal grandmother. Unfortunatly she passed away at the age of 49 years, at that time I was only 5 years old so sadly I have no memory of her. I am sure I was probably the little apple of her eyes since I was the only grandchild she lived long enough to see. As a newborn right out of the hospital I spent my first several days of new life in Guin, Alabama at my PawPaw and MawMaw's house. Also, until the time she passed away I spent every weekend with my Harris grandparents, I still have my 4 perfect attendance pins from the First Baptist Church of Guin, Alabama to show for my weekends of staying with my grandparents. I am sure MawMaw Harris is up in Heaven now because I have heard from many people what a kind, christian woman she was and all about how she loved her bible. I know it will be a very special day when Pam, Darrell and me all get to know our MawMaw Harris, until that day, I hope she's up there smiling, knowing even though she left this world so suddenly that she never has nor never will be forgotton...

Eye exams for the kids

Today was a pretty busy Tuesday, still going through heck dealing with this new pharmacy our insurance is making us use, really stinks! I know each month is going to be terrible when it comes time to order Molly's meds. Gotta do what you've gotta do though I guess, just these two meds are $3000 each sure couldn't make it without the insurance. Thank goodness the insurance did an over-ride this month so we could get it from our local pharmacy, if they hadn't done that no way the med would have got here by the time we needed it to.

Wesley and Molly had their eye exams today, we got Molly's new glasses ordered. Wesley got a prescription for glasses also but says he's not wearing glasses and his prescription is so weak they don't even make contacts for it so what do you do? The vision in Wesley's left eye which is his worst was 20/25, so that tells you they aren't that bad. Molly's was alot worse though, poor thing...

After getting out of the eye doctor and going the optical store we had Steve meet us in Columbus for supper at LaFiesta's before he had to go to work, I knew I wouldn't have time to come home and cook before he had to leave. Was nice to all sit down together and eat something that I didn't have to cook or wash the dishes afterwards. After leaving there me and the kids rode to New Hope to see my parents for a few minutes before coming home.

Ok, after 10pm now ... 5am is gonna come early in the morning so I'm gonna hit the sack!

The Letter F

The letter F is for family.

Here's a photo from a family reunion last September. The people in the photo are: 3 boys in front from left to right, my nephews - Landon, Logan and Austin. Molly (my youngest daughter)is standing behind them. Then second row there's my uncle, my dad, mom, Tiffany (my daughter), my sister (Pam), and her husband Scott. Back row- my hubby (Steve), Wesley (my son), Me, Dustin (my soon to be son-in-law).

Chicken Pot Pie

We all love chicken pot pie, I make it quiet a bit but I do complain that it is kind of expensive to make. By the time you buy your ingredients, then your deep dish pie shells, then the dough for the top crust , it all adds up.
My mother told me of a recipe for one that she made, her and my dad both talked about how good it was so I thought I'd give it a try last night. It is a little cheaper to make because you make the crust yourself. I changed the recipe up a little bit but it did turn out good.

Chicken Pot Pie

Bottom layer :
4 chicken breast
1 med. onion, finely diced
4 hard boiled eggs, chopped up (I might leave these out next time, Molly didn't like them in it)
Boil your chicken then shred it or cut it up in bit size pieces and spread in the bottom of your baking dish. Cover the chicken with finely diced up onion and the chopped up eggs.

2nd layer:
1 can cream of celery soup
2 cans cream of chicken soup (I just used 1 large can cream of mushroom soup)
1 lg can drained mixxed veggies
1/2 cup chicken broth
I seasoned this with salt, pepper and about 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning (My mom's recipe didn't call for poultry seasoning, so you could leave this out). Mix these ingredients well and spread over your chicken, onion and eggs.

3rd layer (your crust)
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup milk
2/3 cup mayo
Slowly add the milk to the flour while stirring, when this is mixed well, blend in the mayo. Pour this mixture on top of the 2nd layer.
This is what it'll look like

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown, then enjoy!
See how pretty it turned out! It wasn't just pretty, it was yummy...

The Letter E

E is for exhausted. I have debated today as to what word I would use for the letter E. Wasn't hard to finally decide after looking over toward the sofa seeing Molly curled up napping. She had a friend come home from school with her yesterday to spend the night, from the minute they walked in the door they were wide open. They had such a blast together. Her friend went home late this afternoon and I guess Molly just couldn't handle it anymore, she had to have a little nap.

Shout-out

I just had to give a big ole shout-out to the New Hope Trojans Boy's basketball team for winning the 4A State Championship last night, boy it was an exciting game! I nearly had a heart attack watching it on tv. The Trojans beat Picayune in overtime with a score of 56 to 51.

Even though we're South Lamar Stallions now I still love Trojan basketball. Wayyyyyyy to go Trojans !!!!!

Snow

Well we did get a little snow here last night. Molly and Penni have been out this morning playing in what snow is left that they could find. It's all melting really fast.

Below is a picture of our great snowman of 2008! haha ... We made him on the trunk of my car. Don't laugh because he's so small, we did what we could with what we had to work with haha...

Is it gonna snow ?

Well here we are, the 7th day of March, no snow all winter other than a few flakes and now we have snow in the forecast for tonight(only a dusting though). Living in the South all my life I'm used to this, it'll be 30 degrees one day then 70 the next (this is probably why I have touch of a cold now). Our seasons are really crazy, I always say we never have weather that is just right for many days throughout the year. It seems to go from one extreme to the next. Ohhhh to live in a place where it was 70 to 80 degrees all year, that'd be lovely.

About the snow, I always laugh when going to the grocery store if the word snow has been mentioned in the forecast, people go so crazy. And I have never understood why it's milk and bread these people are mostly buying. I guess it's just something that is passed down from one generation to the next , we learn from our mother's and grandmother's , it's gonna snow, better run and get milk and bread. Today I went grocery shopping not because of the predicted snow storm (haha) but because we needed groceries. As I go down the dairy isle I try to think, do we have enough milk or not. I decide not to get any , of course I get home and see we did in fact need some. So, I will get my dear husband to pick up some on the way home from work, and he can be the one that people are looking at saying " haha, that man thinks its going to snow, look at him buying milk".

The Letter D

D is for doll. This is a doll that belonged to my step-grandmother, in fact it's the first doll she ever got. I think she's so neat and in great shape to be 70 yrs old. I only have one problem with the doll though, Molly (my youngest child) is scared of the doll, she says she's creepy so the poor doll has to live in my closet.

The other day when I got the doll out to take this picture I left her sitting on my bed. Molly came in from school, after a while she went in my bedroom, next thing I know she came storming through the living room. Haha ... she saw the doll sitting on the bed! Funny how kids can be over certain things. I am proud of my doll though even if Molly isn't.

The Letter C

The letter C is for clock. I guess you're wondering why I have a picture of my alarm clock here. Well, the reason is to remind everyone that this Sunday (March 9) at 2 am is when daylight saving time begins. So don't forget to move those clocks forward one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. I am really excited about this because I love sunshine so of course having more of it each day will be great!

Also don't forget those batteries in your smoke detectors, time to change those also.

The Letter B

B is for Basket

There aren't alot of things I just love for myself but I do have a weakness for baskets, of course I love old antique baskets but I also love Longaberger baskets, that is one thing I guess you could say I collect. The fact that they're handmade here in the United States is great. I would love to get to take a trip to Dresden, Ohio and get to see the place the baskets are made, maybe someday....If you're interested in checking out their website, here ya go : http://www.longaberger.com/

I got down my baskets yesterday to take a picture for this post, our silly cat (Sara) is so nosey. She always has to check out the situation anytime you start doing anything it seems. Notice her peeping out of one of my baskets. She just loves getting in things, whether its a box, bag, basket, etc. I didn't plan on getting her in the picture but I couldn't do anything but laugh at her when I saw her peeping out like that at me. We just love her, she's such a great cat!
